Latest company news about Possible Failures and Troubleshooting in the Electrocoating Process: Uncoated spots(air entrapment)/ Film thickness failure

Workpiece with uncoated areas
Workpiece with abnormally thin film thickness or no film

Q1:
Foaming (substrate undergoing electrodeposition with foam on its surface, resulting in uncoated spots as traces of the foam)
Air entrapment

A1:

  • Place the workpiece in the bath slowly to avoid foaming.
  • Place the workpiece at an angle to facilitate the escaping of the foam.
  • Review the solution flow (nozzle) to facilitate the escaping of the foam.

Q2:
Electrical continuity failure (occurrence of workpieces with no film or a very thin film due to defective contact)

A2:
Correct the defective contact. (Inspect the current collector and hanger contacts.)

Q3:
Electrical continuity failure (occurrence of uncoated areas due to the electrically insulating property of adherents on the substrate surface)

A3:
Remove the insulation from the substrate surface
